United States Lines - From the Charles Howland Collection, a group of S.S. UNITED STATES photos including a series with television star Merv Griffin.
Poor Merv. There are ten 3.5" by 5" snapshots of him by the rail as the UNITED STATES sails outbound from New York. He looks annoyed as the press follows him around, but such is the price of fame. The photos come in a Moran Towing envelope with a handwritten date of 1968.
Also included are two cut-up poster boards, apparently from a class visit to the SSUS. Five 3" by 3" pics show the ship and students.
Further views: two 3" by 5.5" ship images taken in 1956; six little contact sheet pics, also taken in 1956; a pierside bow view with a toothy '48 Buick in the foreground; and a bizarre composition with the Big U, a tug, and a double-exposure.
Excellent condition.
