    Description

    6922s-23s
    A
    3 3/4" tall x 8 1/2" wide
authentic and original cashed check from the
    BANK of AUSTIN NEVADA
    .
    This is a
    check that is dated
    February 18th 1908
, though the check also says that the bank was
    ESTABLISHED 1863
, while the Civil War was still raging, that's how long ago that is!
    Condition
:   Paper check is in excellent condition.  It has some even folds in it that are so ingrained into it, it was probably from when the payee took it to the bank, neatly folded up in his wallet, to cash it (see picture for good idea of condition).
    Age
    : A true antique, dated
    1908
, well over a century old.
There is some interesting bits of information on this check.  For example it mentions the ANGLO - CALIFORNIAN BANK, the OAKLAND BANK OF SAVINGS, it is made out to and endorsed by "M. W. Hodkins Co.", and is signed by a "J. A. Miller" (was Joaquin Miller ever into banking???)   It also shows the connection between Austin Nevada and the California bay area, as so many of these early-day Nevada mining towns got their start and continual support by San Francisco capital and financing.   A super excellent piece of Austin, Nevada history here
