A truly stunning and exquisitely detailed handmade and painted octagonal folding table.
It is hair and lacquer and depicts traditional motifs. It also has some writing, maybe it’s signed, but I couldn’t get any translation app to make sense of it. This piece is phenomenal, with superb and incredible detail. Like it was painted with an eyelash, the lines are so fine. It is 21 inches high overall and 24 1/4 inches across the flats. Point to point is 26” across. The legs fold up on hinges for storage and shipping. When correctly set up, the top fits snugly in place so it’s sturdy and very stable. The condition is very good, especially for antique lacquerware, with almost no chipping, cracking or loss, just a bit along the edges. I took close-ups to give an idea. The top is really fantastic and in great shape, and you can see the slight waviness of authentic lacquerware. It looks like the interior red lacquer was painted over at some point and some stray paint got on the leg designs (see pics). It’s not obvious and doesn’t detract.
