OFFICIAL FEDERAL COMMUNICATIONS COMMISSION CERTIFICATE PERSONALLY PRESENTED TO AND OWNED BY MELVIN PURVIS, THE FBI AGENT RESPONSIBLE FOR THE CAPTURE OF JOHN DILLINGER
Official Federal Communications Commission certificate personally presented to and owned by Melvin Purvis while a lieutenant colonel in the United States Army during World War II.  Purvis started a radio station shortly after moving to Florence, South Carolina in 1938. The present certificate gave him authorization to communicate with his audience. Purvis had previous experience in radio when he signed on to host the show “Junior G-Man: The Melvin Purvis Club” in California in 1936 that successfully enrolled 260,000 children into the club.  The document is one page with a fully-intact gold embossed seal, measures 12 by 9 inches, created in Washington, DC on January 6, 1942, signed by the FCC Secretary, and in fine condition with minor toning and very small tearing along the borders.
