This is a rare souvenir program from the World Premiere performance of the IRVING BERLIN, HOWARD LINDSAY and RUSSEL CROUSE musical comedy "MR. PRESIDENT" at the National Theatre in Washington, D.C., September 25th, 1962. Hosted by the White House as a fundraiser to benefit The Kennedy Child Study Center for Retarded Children and The Lt. Joseph P. Kennedy, Jr. Institute for Mental Retardation, the Honorary Chairman for the event was MRS. JOHN F. KENNEDY and Honorary Vice-Chairmen, MRS. LYNDON B. JOHNSON and LADY ORMSBY GORE. (Following the three-week Washington, D.C. engagement, the production would play Boston, then open October 20th, 1962 at the St. James Theatre in New York City, where it would run for 265 performances.) ..... The musical starred NANETTE FABRAY and ROBERT RYAN and featured David Brooks, Wisa D'Orso, Charlotte Fairchild, Anita Gillette, Stanley Grover, Jack Haskell, Jerry Strickler and Jack Washburn ..... DETAILS: The oversized 16 page program measures 10" X 14" inches, is printed on a heavy parchment-like stock and bound with a red tassled cord and includes full production credits, complete list of the Executive Committee Members for the event, a letter of thanks from ETHEL KENNEDY and several pages of photos and text about the programs provided by the two organizations that the funds would benefit ..... PLEASE NOTE: Due to the unusual size and the limitations of my scanner, the scanned pages have been cropped. The margins are wider and deeper than shown ..... CONDITION: With the exception of light soiling to the covers and a minor corner crease on the back cover, this rare program is in excellent condition and will make a wonderful addition to the collection of any musical theatre aficionado or Presidential historian.
