The surface of the bowl is finely detailed with embossed, chased and repoussé decoration depicting the Vessantara Jataka (a story of one of Buddha's past lives). The bottom is marked with a peacock mark, Konbaung Dynasty, per Wynyard Wilkinson, Indian Silver 1858-1947, “There are a number of variations of the peacock signatures, probably referring to different makers, all of whom are indirectly claiming past royal patronage by using the peacock as their mark. Pieces signed by the ‘peacock’ makers are always of very good workmanship.”. The item isn't marke, but tests as 900 plus silver.
