A fine and rare aerial of two very spectacular ships:
After the Korean War in 1952 the
USS Shangri-La
moved to a New York Naval Shipyard to undergo major alterations after which she emerged as an attack aircraft carrier, redesignated CVA-38 and became one of the world’s first angled-deck aircraft carrier.
The
SS United States
had over 241,000 horsepower, and could do over 20 knots in reverse. Her top
forward
speed more than doubled that, and her Blue Riband records as the fastest east and westbound transatlantic runs still stand to this day.
