PUDDY THE PUP - DOG WANTED
. This is noted as being #787 in the Castle Films 8mm catalog per the stamping shown on the top and bottom of the box's opening flaps. I'm no expert on these reels but research on the web suggests to me that the manufacture of this reel is likely to have been produced back in the mid-to-late 1940s.
This is a vintage Terrytoons B&W cartoon that dates originally back to 1938. Box specifies that this is a 8mm Headline Edition copy of this film (whatever that means). Size of reel suggests a running time of about 3-4 minutes. This reel is silent, there is no sounds accompanying the cartoon.
I've provided multiple shots of the exterior box to show that there's a fair amount of overall shelf-wear consistent with an item that has been stored in not-museum-quality condition for the past 70+ years. Notable is that one of the flaps features a small area where there's a paper chip missing, likley resulting from a price tag having been removed (see photo #3 for a close-up of this). The reel itself features some light rusting of the clasps that secure the two sides together (see photo #7 for an example of this).
There would normally be a small amount of leader stock at the front tail of this reel but this is missing, presumably due in part to some of the next wear to be noted... the very beginning of the reel appears munched as if it was involved in a projector-related mishap. There's about a foot of film where there's some hard creases and general evidence of mangling. There's about a 1cm tear at one spot where the CASTLE FILMS title card is featured (see photo #9 for a close-up of this). The Castle title card then transitions immediately into the Puddy the Pup title card (see photo #10 for a close-up of this beginning section of the reel).
I am guessing a savvy 8mm enthusiast should be able to repair these imperfections and add some stock leader to the beginning of the reel to help with feeding it through a projector. Just wanted to be totally up-front about these perceived imperfections; I do not have a projector, myself, and cannot validate the condition or consistency of the remainder of the reel but my unspooling several feet of it suggests the rest of the film remains in very decent condition overall.
