    Rare Old Burmese Kalaga.
    My loss is your gain. From a prominent Palm Beach Private Estate. A set (pair) of rare 20th century Burmese Kalaga tapestries. Showcased in two 30” antiqued frame boxes under protective glass. Frames alone cost 0 each.
    Beautifully embroidered with glass beads, metallic wrapped thread, metal sequins and beads, this tapestry seems to come to life with warriors and mythical creatures. The figures are padded, giving the piece beautiful texture and dimension. Handmade in Myanmar.
    The word (Kalaga) which means (curtain) comes from the Burmese language, although Burmese refer to such tapestries.
    The culture of Myanmar (also known as Burma) (Burmese) has been heavily influenced by Buddhism. This tapestry uses a sewing technique called (Shwe Gyi.).
    Kalaga art form emerged during the (Konbaung) dynasty in the mid-19th century and reached it's zenith during the reign of (Mindon Min).
