SS UNITED STATES LINES Original Show Ring from Passenger Gangway (RARE)

Description

This is one of only four decorative life-rings that exist, and were hung on each side of two different boarding gangway's on "The SS United States Liner". There was a first-class boarding gangway, and a second boarding gangway for the cabin & tourist-class passengers on the "Big U". One of these decorative life-rings was displayed on each side of both gangway's, mounted in a three point cradle. This beautiful life-ring measures...30" in diameter, and all the ropes are in excellent condition as well. These can be seen in many old photo's and movie reels during the 18 year life of the "Big U". This is practically a one-of-a-kind item. I owned one of the other three decorative life-rings over 30 years ago. I eventually sold it to another SSUS collector, and haven't seen it since. Three of the four decorative life-rings were sold at the 1984 SSUS at auction in Norfolk, Virginia...and the fourth was located by me in 1985; hidden away in the "Big U" forward smoke stack.
