    Description

This is a rare promotional tablecloth produced for or by Gosset Champagne.  I do not know its age, and there is NO information or comps on the web.  It is a heavier cotton damask with the Gosset logo on the top side, in the color of dark red (like stewed tomatoes or catsup color).  It measures a generous 106" in length, 49" wide, with 1/4" hemmed edges on four sides.  The back side is shiny as shown in picture #3 whereas the top side is more of a brushed cotton.  The Gosset Champage logo is authentic from what I can tell, with a crown at the top and accurate font.  (The bottom reads
    Ay 1584
    )  From the web:
Founded in Aÿ in 1584 by Pierre Gosset, Champagne Gosset is the oldest wine house in Champagne. Over the next four centuries,
    generations
of the Gosset family would go on to win fame not only as alderman, mayors and magistrates in Aÿ, but also in growing and trading wines of Champagne.
Given the clues above, I can only assume this was produced as an advertising element for introduction of a new line, a tasting event, etc.  There are no others like it in any color, so they didn't make many.  The tablecloth has no holes, no stains, no rips or other blemishes.  It has been laundered on gentle cycle, line dried, and pressed on reverse.  I do not use starch or scent, and I do not iron folds.  (Folds you see in pictures are from being stored in a folded position.)  An excellent item for the textile collector, wine or champagne enthusiest!
